About locus athens
locus athens, a nomadic non-profit arts organisation, was founded in 2004 with the aim of exploring the juncture between public space in Athens and contemporary art.

locus athens, a nomadic non-profit arts organisation, was originally formed in 2004 by Maria-Thalia Carras and Sophia Tournikiotis, with the aim of exploring the juncture between public space in Athens and contemporary art.

Commissioning artists to produce new works based on in situ research, locus athens has curated exhibitions, talks and screenings in various locations of the city as well as organised educational programmes and published a series of award-winning children’s art books.

locus athens has explored different curatorial models with projects that have shifted in scale and size, collaborating with a wide range of institutions in Greece and beyond, reaching out to different communities and thinking further about the necessity of tackling contested issues.

Since 2019 locus athens has centred most of its programme, on its now current project space TAVROS, in the eponymous area of Athens.
